statuette d’Harpocrate du British

A
comparison of the statues of the British
Museum and that of the National Archaeological
Museum in Madrid . The one in London has the number 132908. It is made of
bronze and shows a child-god with one foot in front of the other. It is the
Egyptian way. There we have Isis and Osiris and the child Horus. During the XXI
and XXII dynasty Horus is followed up by Khonsou the child.
Inscription:
wḥq nn = this was engraved by NN
b‘lbn' = the architect
Combined
with all the available data the complete inscription could be:
ḥrpkrṭ ytn
ḥym l‘ms bn
’šmnytn bn ‘
zrmlk wḥq
nn
b‘lbn’
Translation:
That
Harpocrates will grant
The life to
‘MS, son of Ešmoenyaton, son of ‘
Azarmilk.
This was engraved by NN, the architect.
ḥr p.’ hrd
(Egyptian) = Horus the child and that was translated in Phoenician as: ḥrpkrṭ.
The Greeks
called it finally Harpokrates.
